.....These photographs were taken in the Himachal Pradesh state (northern India) during my travels to this remote Himalayan region in July 2001. From viewing the images, one gets a feel for the terrain and people in these mostly Buddhist communities.
.....Without running water and electricity for three weeks, I mostly camped and traveled in vehicles at 10 or 15 mph through the rugged mountainous landscape. I encountered villagers, road workers, rinpoches (highly revered lamas) and altitudes approaching 18,000 feet. During private audiences with lamas, worldly affairs were vigorously debated in as many as four languages with the help of two interpreters. Arranged through Aquaterra Adventures, based in New Delhi, this was one of our most memorable trips.
